#283. clay pigeons

Who's noticed cool new things on this here website? I'm showing my most recent flickr photomagraph and last music played (courtesy of last.fm and working well with iTunes at home and amaroK in work). This will hopefully give the impression that I'm actually alive, despite the infrequent postings.
Speaking of photos, here's a pic of me shooting clay pigeons as part of a company day out. Having never shot a gun before, it was a new experience and, strangely, I got first prize on the day. I'm not advocating shooting furry little creatures or relaxing gun laws, but it felt damn good to smash those little yellow disks. Everyone should have a go, even to get more of an insight into "gun culture".
Also interesting on the day in question was the fact they allowed me drive a big 4x4 a) blindfolded and b) down the side of a thickly forested hill. They didn't seem to mind that I'd never driven before and laughed heartily as my terror turned to exhiliation while avoiding trees and steering into big (BIG) puddles. Again, moral objections took a sideseat to the enjoyment of the experience.
The day out fitted nicely with my "Winter? What Winter?" plan, which hopes to subvert the changing seasons by finding reasons to go out on a cold dark day. Step 2 was a pleasant visit to the Botanic Gardens, Dublin. Step 3 hasn't happened yet.
They started off with straw pigeons, but realised they weren't good enough, so moved onto the wood pigeons.
I wrote them a letter detailing the advantages of brick pigeons, and am awaiting a reply.
"Clay Zombie Shooting Range"
But I think that's probably over thinking things a tad.
One of my favourite reasons is that shooting clay pigeons making loud bangs with shotguns makes the actual feathered birdies nervous of guns and much harder for actual hunter animal killer types to hunt them on that particular bit of land.
