Today, CIE has mostly got my goat up. The unions are objecting to the proposed demerging of CIE into its constituant bus, rail and coach services and have called an unoffical strike for off-peak hours today. This means anyone not working 9-5 is going to be serious inconvienced today, which indeed I was. I'm all for recognised unions, legitimate protest and fair working conditions, but I do not agree with today's fiasco. They have just received a pay increase after extensive striking over summer, so we can assume they are happy with that. This time they are protesting at a perceived threat over something which has not affected them at all so far. They are, in fact, shooting themselves in the foot. By cancelling all public transport, they are demonstrating how much power they have to cripple the capital; something which will only serve as a catalyst for the impending breakup.
